PRESENTATION OF FIBRESHIP IN THE 13th SPANISH NATIONAL CONGRESS OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS (MATCOMP19) IN VIGO (SPAIN)

MATCOMP19 is considered as the most important event dedicated to high-performance composite materials in Spain

In the strong dissemination campaign of FIBRESHIP Consortium, it has been presented the last technological achievements and progress of the FIBRESHIP project at the 13th Spanish National Conference of Composite Materials (MATCOMP19). The Conference was held in Vigo from the 3rd to the 5th of July 2019.

MATCOMP19 is considered as the most important event dedicated to high-performance composite materials in Spain. The main purpose of this event is to bring together professionals from companies, universities and research centres which develop their activity in this industry. The Congress covers a broad range of topics in order to highlight the positive impact of the implementation of composite materials in strategic sectors as the aeronautical, automotive and naval industry. This event was attended by more than 350 engineers and specialists, who participated in its different technological sessions and industrial activities. Further information about this important congress can be found on the following link https://matcomp19.com.

In this event, the coordinator of FIBRESHIP, Alfonso Jurado (TSI, www.tsisl.es), presented the project in the session focused on “B3. CAMPOS DE APLICACIÓN DE LOS MATERIALES COMPUESTOS” (B3. APPLICATION FIELDS OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS). The project investigates the feasibility of the massive implementation of lightweight composite materials in the design and construction of large-length vessels of over 50 metres in length. The construction of the demonstrator of the fishing research vessel and the last innovative results of this challenging innovation project were included in this presentation, which captured wide interest among the attendees who participated in the event as per example the professionals of the automotive and aeronautic sector. It was pointed out that during the presentation that the experience of other sectors in composites technology is essential for expanding this technology the large-length shipbuilding sector by means of cost reduction. The presence of FIBRESHIP in MATCOMP19 was very successful, encouraging to the Consortium to continue working hard to achieve more innovative results on this challenging innovation project.

In addition, a conference paper regarding FIBRESHIP project will be released in AEMAC’s journal (Asociación Española de MAteriales Compuestos).
